Phillip grew up with a very competitive twin sister. They played everything together from baseball, soccer and basketball. Funny as it may sound, he found his sister as one of his biggest competitors on the teams he played until she stopped playing co-ed. But their competitiveness with each other carried over into each other’s individual sports as well.
Throughout high school he did plenty of different sports from racing BMX to pole vaulting on the track team. He tried football, and just about every event in track from long distance, sprints, hurdles, discus, shot put and relays. His biggest regret was not focusing his athletic abilities in one sport and sticking with it. Without continuing sports into College he found himself in the gym every day lifting weights and playing pickup basketball games with friend two nights a week.
While finishing his degree in Computer Science at Cal State San Marcos Phillip tried out a local CrossFit box in the summer of 2011. He found the competitive atmosphere he had been missing from sports and turned his passion into coaching CrossFit that same year. He coached and helped manage the CrossFit he was at originally before getting a job with his degree and moving down to San Marcos from Temecula.
Currently he is working for a software company while spending each day he can after work to teach CrossFit. He enjoys being an athlete in CrossFit just as much as he loves teaching it.
