Our Free 1 on 1 Assessment

Regardless of a person’s past athletic experience or current level of fitness, everyone who first comes to CrossFit Double Barrel is provided with the opportunity to learn about basic techniques, terminology, pre-workout warm ups and exercises before participating in regular CrossFit Double Barrel classes.

We start by scheduling a Free 1 on 1 Assessment with one of our Head Trainers. During that Assessment we go over

  • Facility Tour and What we do
  • Personal Goals
  • Training/Fitness History
  • Past or present injuries or concerns
  • Movement / Flexibility Assessment
  • Fitness Test

 

After we have gone through our Assessment we recommend the number of Sessions (usually 5-20) required before joining the group classes. New Members are also assigned a Coach. This Coach will be your personal coach to help guide you on your fitness journey.

 

1 on 1 Fundamental Sessions

Our 1 on 1 training sessions gives us a chance to customize the training for each new member. During these sessions we cover the 9 Fundamental movements of CrossFit, Nutrition, Mobility, Strength Training, and Cardiovascular Endurance. These Sessions are scheduled with your Personal Coach based on your availability.

 

After Fundamentals

When new members are done with their 1 on 1 Session they will transition into group classes. Your time with your Personal coach is not over though. We highly encourage still meeting with them anywhere from once a week to once every 3 months. Use these sessions to learn new skills, brush up on technique, or re-evaluate your nutrition plan.

 

Test-Out

If you are already familiar with CrossFit methodologies and have trained in another certified location, you may be eligible for CrossFit Double Barrel Test-Out option. We offer a one-hour private session with our trainers to review your fitness level and knowledge of CrossFit. If you are able to demonstrate competency in CrossFit movements, you may wish to consider this Test-Out opportunity. The session is free of cost but must be scheduled.

What is Crossfit?

Greg Glassman, a former gymnast, founded CrossFit®, Inc. in 2000. In his years coaching elite athletes, Coach Glassman found that the best way to achieve optimal fitness was not through specialization but rather through “constantly varied, functional movement, performed at high intensity.” In short, this means combining elements of Olympic weightlifting, gymnastics, sprinting, rowing and core conditioning to improve overall flexibility, strength, speed, endurance and agility.

Constantly Varied

“Constantly Varied” means that every day brings a different workout (or “WOD”), incorporating any combination of these elements. At CrossFit Double Barrel you (yes, you!) will jump rope, climb ropes, swing kettle bells and flip tires. You will work at pull ups, muscle ups, hand stands, pushups, and hand-stand pushups. You will practice squats, dips, cleans, jerks, snatches and deadlifts as well as rowing, running and box jumps. Each day will bring different exercises always specifically designed to work on different muscle groups and/or cardiovascular strength.

Functional Movement

“Functional Movement” refers to maintaining the safest, most-efficient position to power through a movement. There are plenty of misconceptions out there about CrossFit; the truth is much of what we do in our workouts mirrors activities in our daily lives. To the uninitiated, flipping a tire looks like crazy, “he-man” work. But if you’ve ever had to move a mattress up a flight of stairs, you already know the movement. Cleaning a medicine ball may appear odd, but consider what your body does when you place your suitcase in a plane’s overhead compartment. If you’ve ever lifted a heavy bag of dog food or peat moss, no one needs to tell you the importance of arching your back. CrossFit Double Barrel will help you maintain the correct position in a workout – both to keep you and others safe as well as to maximize efficiency.

High Intensity

“High Intensity” is a concept that at first can be difficult for new CrossFitters to grasp. For many people, a workout’s efficiency is only proportionate to the amount of hours spent in the gym. You will never hear a CrossFitter say, “I had a great workout; I was in the gym for four hours!” You are much more likely to hear, “I finished in 8 minutes.” People come here skeptical that a high-intensity workout, done in a fraction of the time as they are used to, can lead to faster, better results. But results don’t lie.

The beauty of our sport is that we are all in it together, motivating one another. It’s a sport where the person last to finish the workout receives more high fives than the person first to finish.

One of the things that makes CrossFit so unique is our community of people from literally every walk of life: stay-at-home parents, elite athletes, students, CEOs, members of the armed services, firefighters, you name it. CrossFit bodies – our bodies – come in every imaginable size, shape and age; and yet, our workouts every day, are designed for anyone to do them.

Yes, anyone.

“Scalability” is a word that you will hear frequently here at CrossFit Double Barrel. During each class, everyone does the same workout, but that workout will always have several scaling options. This makes it possible for all of us – with our different body types, personal goals and levels of ability – to work alongside one another safely. We motivate one another, cheer one another on, and sometimes participate in some healthy competition. But, ultimately, every workout is yours alone. Your workout = your pace.

EXPERIENCED CROSSFITTERS

We love nothing more than having visitors from other boxes come “throw down” with us.

If you are just passing through San Marcos, Vista, or Escondido we charge a drop in fee of $15 per day or a 5 day punch pass for $60. Please plan on arriving 15 minutes before scheduled class time so we can provide you with a waiver to sign (our insurance friends make us do this) and introduce you to our box. You can find our class schedule here.

You may find that CrossFit Double Barrel in San Marcos does things a little differently than your “box back home.” We hope that you enjoy the change in scenery, clientele, maybe even music. If anything makes you uncomfortable, however, please don’t hesitate to let us know.

If you are an experienced CrossFitter who would like to join CrossFit Double Barrel, great! We are thrilled to welcome you. Every member, regardless of fitness level, must participate on our On-Ramp classes.
